Electric motor-assisted bicycle comprising a removable battery (9) mounted by sliding fit onto two rails (28) of a battery receptacle (27) located on the central portion (17) of the handlebars. The rails (28) are inclined downward and rearward and the battery is inserted into the receptacle by sliding from the upper front end (30) of the rails. The battery faces the user and is visible to the user. The rails also serve for the electrical connection of the battery.
