Transverse bumper beam (6) for vehicles comprising an extruded aluminum alloy profile that can be fixed to the vehicle and has walls, a front wall (63) and a rear wall (64) that are spaced apart by a certain distance, and a pair of transverse walls (65, 66), which join said front and rear walls to form a hollow section and a spacer (67) arranged between the transverse walls connecting said front and rear walls and dividing the hollow profile into two chambers, an upper chamber (62) and a lower chamber (61) which extend between the walls, where the cross-section of one of said chambers is larger than the cross-section of the other chamber. Said front wall closing the chamber whose cross-section is the largest (631 or 632) is offset horizontally in the direction of the obstacle with respect to the part of said front wall closing the chamber whose cross-section is the smallest (632 or 631); and where the ratio between the height H of said transverse beam and said horizontal offset Δ is between 10 and 50. The bumper beams according to the invention are advantageous in particular during the collision of two vehicles whose bumpers are located at different vertical levels during the accident. They allow in this situation to limit the intrusion of the bumper beam into the vehicle.
