Steering wheel lock (100) for locking a steering shaft of a motor vehicle, comprising a locking bolt (101) which is designed to be movable between a locking position in which the locking bolt (101) blocks the steering shaft and an unlocking position in which the locking bolt (101) releases the steering shaft, a slide (103) which is in engagement with the locking bolt (101) and is designed to move the locking bolt (101) between the unlocking position and the locking position, a locking element (111) which can be transferred from a retaining position into a locking position in order to hold the locking bolt (101) in the locking position in the locking position, a securing element (115) for holding the locking element (111) in the retaining position, a housing cover (105) and an elastic element (107), in particular a spring element, which is arranged between the slide (103) and the housing cover (105), wherein between the housing cover (105) and the elastic element (107) a release element (117) is arranged which is in engagement with the securing element (115).
