The invention relates to a fuel injector (10) comprising an injector housing (11) in which a high-pressure bore (15) is formed for supplying the injector housing (11) with fuel, and comprising a sensor element (30) for detecting a deformation of a wall section (37) of the injector housing (11) bounding the high-pressure bore (15). According to the invention, it is provided that the sensor element (30) is arranged in operative connection with the wall section (37) in the region of a recess (20) of the injector housing (11), wherein the recess (20) is formed as a circumferentially closed depression with side walls (21, 22, 23, 24) and a bottom section (26), and that the sensor element (30) is arranged within the cross-section of the injector housing (11).
