A motor vehicle lighting system (10) is proposed with light-generating elements (18) and a control device (38), wherein the light-generating elements (18) comprise at least one semiconductor light source (22) arranged on a carrier element (16), and wherein the control device (38) is configured to set an operating current of the at least one semiconductor light source (22). The lighting system is characterized in that the light-generating elements (18) comprise an evaluation circuit (20) configured to detect a class of the semiconductor light source (22) and/or a temperature and to generate an output signal as a function of the class of the semiconductor light source (22) and/or the temperature, and that the control device is configured to set the operating current for the light-generating elements (18) as a function of the output signal.
