Method and system for monitoring a free-wheeling pulley

The invention relates to a system and a method for monitoring a freewheel pulley, in particular a freewheel pulley mounted on a drive shaft of a generator. The method comprises the steps of: determining a rotational speed of the generator, wherein the generator is driven by a crankshaft or an intermediate drive wheel; determining a target rotational speed of the generator; and detecting a malfunction of the freewheel pulley (2) if the determined rotational speed of the generator falls below the target rotational speed.
