Method for operating a safety system (21) of a motor vehicle (1), which is designed to determine and realize an evasive trajectory (6) upon occurrence of an evasion criterion relating to a collision object (4), wherein to determine the evasive trajectory (6) a predefined steering angle change rate profile (10, 10') parameterized by time-describing progression parameters and predefined actuator dynamics parameters describing the maximum realizable dynamics of a steering actuator (25) used are employed, whereby the evasive trajectory (6) to be used in the situation is determined by determining suitable progression parameters as a function of at least one situation-dependent adaptation parameter.
