The invention relates to a locking device (10) for a steering column (12) of a motor vehicle, with a locking module (14) attachable to the steering column (12), comprising a housing (18), an electric motor/gearbox unit and a locking bolt (20) which can be moved into a locking/unlocking position by means of the electric motor/gearbox unit and which, in the locking position, extends partially out of the housing (18). The invention is characterized in that the locking module (14) comprises a latch bolt (22) which extends out of the housing (18) in the locking position, and in that a transmission module (16) having a blocking bolt (28) is arranged on the steering column (12), whereby in the locking position the latch bolt (22) is in positive engagement with the blocking bolt (28) and the blocking bolt (28) can be moved by means of the latch bolt (22) into a blocking position in which the blocking bolt (28) is positively connected to a body component (32, 34).
