Child seat (10) for a motor vehicle comprising a carrying shell (11) with carrying handle (12) and a seating unit (13) arranged within the carrying shell (11), comprising: - a backrest section (14), - a seat section (15), - a leg section (16), - an upper backrest support (17), which is mounted on the backrest section (14) of the seating unit (13) for movement in a direction toward and away from the seat section (15), - a device for changing the position of the upper backrest support (17) relative to the backrest section (14), and - a harness with two shoulder straps (18, 19), wherein each shoulder strap (18, 19) is guided through a corresponding slot (20, 21, 22, 23) in the backrest section (14) as well as in the upper backrest support (17), wherein the strap slots (20, 21, 22, 23) in the backrest section (14) are each assigned pivotably mounted strap guides (24, 25).
