In a method for controlling a lithium-ion battery as a traction battery of an industrial truck, wherein the lithium-ion battery comprises in a battery housing at least one battery cell and a battery management system with monitoring and control devices, and the battery management system controls the maximum charging and the minimum discharging of the lithium-ion battery, different operating modes can be selected by means of a control command transmitted to the battery management system, wherein at least one operating mode has a reduced maximum charging and/or increased minimum discharging.
