When a first drive mode is selected bya selection switch, activation of a neutral control means and an idle stop control means is prohibited. When a second drive mode is selected, the activation of the neutral control means is permitted. When a third drive mode is selected, the activation of the idle stop control means is permitted. By this procedure, fuel savings of a vehicle are achieved.
