The invention relates to a method for producing a textile surface heating element (1), wherein a warp knit fabric is formed and heating conductors (4) are laid as warp threads through knitting in a single working operation. At intervals to one another, contact conductors (5) contacting the heating conductors (4) are inserted as weft threads or weft thread groups. For the production of the surface heating element (1), a warp knitting machine or Raschel machine is used, whose production speed is varied depending on the loop formation. The warp knitting machine or Raschel machine has a magazine weft insertion system with feed chains (11) for supplying weft threads and a weft carriage (12) for inserting weft threads. Both the feed chain (11) and the weft carriage (12) are stopped for predetermined times depending on the loop formation.
