The invention relates to a transport vehicle for piece goods, in particular in the form of compressed bales, with a loading platform that is bounded by front and rear end wall elements as well as by longitudinal side parts, wherein the longitudinal side parts cooperate with an opening mechanism for adjustment between a transport position and an opening position for loading and unloading the loading platform, such that the longitudinal side parts are articulated to the opening mechanism in such a manner that the longitudinal side parts are pivoted upward in the opening position. Furthermore, a locking mechanism with a lifting device for raising and lowering the longitudinal side parts between a locking position and a release position is provided.
