A rechargeable battery comprising a case and an electrode assembly located in said case, said case comprising a wall surrounding an opening, the rechargeable battery further comprising a retainer for holding said electrode assembly in place within the case, the retainer comprising an insertion guide with an inclined plane extending away from said opening and towards said electrode assembly, such that a gap between the retainer and the wall increases in a direction away from the opening.
