The invention relates to an armrest for a vehicle seat with an armrest body (11) which forms a pivot joint with a base (15) and is pivotable over a pivot angle ± between a non-use position and a use position, wherein at least one damping device (17a, 17b) is provided for damping the movement of the armrest body (11). The special feature consists in that the armrest (10) comprises a control device (18a, 18b) which actuates the damping device (17a, 17b) in at least a first partial range (², ³) of the pivot angle.
