The invention relates to an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle with exhaust gas recirculation, a control module being configured to command, in the case of a decrease in a torque demand produced by the engine, a reduction in torque produced by the cylinder (14) of which at least part of the exhaust gases are reintroduced into the intake manifold (20) faster than a reduction in torque produced by another cylinder (11,12,13) of the engine.
