Method and device for increasing safety when using battery modules

The method involves completing the achievement of the safe condition as a function of a characteristic variable which is closed on a pressure condition of a battery module (EB). A discharge device is deactivated after completion of discharge and as a function of the pressure in the inner side of the battery module, if the battery module is fully discharged. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a controller for an intrinsic safe battery module ; and (2) an intrinsic safe battery module with sensors.
