The method involves making available a limiting load torque for normal operation by using a control device (35). Another characteristic variable for the reliability of an exceptional case is determined by the control device. The limiting load torque is deactivated by the control device as a function of the former characteristic variable and the latter characteristic variable by making available another limiting load torque, which is 30% greater than the former limiting load torque. The characteristic variable for the plausibility of the exceptional case is ambient temperature. The characteristic variable for the reliability of the exceptional case is a first number of already existing exceptional cases in a limited time period and a second number of already existing exceptional cases in a life cycle of a component such as motor (10) and/or gearbox, of a wiper device.
