The method involves reading a brake request signal (130). An impact information (155) representing an expected impact of a vehicle (100), is derived from the brake request signal. A control signal (163) is generated by incorporating the impact information and the predetermined setting levels, to control a reverse-activated passenger protection system (120). A brake signal (166) is changed based on the impact information, to drive a brake system (170) of the vehicle. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a control device; and (2) a computer program product for controlling a reverse-activated passenger protection system of a vehicle.
