Diene polymers (I) having, at the start of the polymer chain, tertiary amino groups (I) or (II), and, on the polymer chain ends, silane-containing carbinol groups (III) or their metal salts or semi-metal salts are new. Diene polymers (I) having, at the start of the polymer chain, tertiary amino groups of formula ((R1)(R2)N-) (I) or (II), and, on the polymer chain ends, silane-containing carbinol groups of formula (-(R3)(R4)Si-C(R5)(R6)-A-OH) (III) or their metal salts or semi-metal salts are new. R1, R2 : alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl groups, which contain heteroatoms (O, N, S or Si); Z : divalent organic group, which contains, in addition to C and H, heteroatoms (O, N, S or Si); R3-R6 : H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl groups, which contain heteroatoms (O, N, S or Si); and A : divalent organic group, which contains, in addition to C and H, heteroatoms (O, N, S or Si). Independent claims are included for: (1) preparing (I); and (2) a vulcanizable rubber composition, comprising (I), antioxidants, oils, fillers, rubber and/or rubber auxiliaries.
