The method involves analyzing a portion of a response spectrum of an electrochemical element (1) to application of an electromagnetic wave in a frequency, so as to determine an indicator of a value of a state parameter of the element, where the frequency ranges from 10 kHz to 10 GHz, preferably from 10 MHz to 1 GHz. The value of the state parameter is compared with a reference value, and the element is considered to be defective if a difference between the value of the state parameter and the reference value exceeds a predetermined threshold. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for monitoring the manufacture of an electrochemical element (2) a computer program product comprising a set of instructions for implementing a state parameter determining method (3) a computer-readable data carrier comprising a set of instructions for implementing a state parameter determining method.
