Method for performing functional diagnostics on at least one charge movement element by evaluating running irregularities

The method involves generating a charge movement by the movement element(s), setting at least one ignition angle to produce a resulting engine running behavior, determining a characteristic running behavior parameter and comparing the determined parameter with a desired value in order to detect a possible deviation.
