The piston (1) has a cylinder liner (3) in which a piston top surface (1011) defines a combustion chamber (VB) in an installation condition. A piston ring package (4) is formed at an outer surface of the piston between a piston crown (101) facing the combustion chamber and a piston shell (102) facing the combustion chamber. The piston ring package comprises a piston ring that is designed as a top ring (41) fixed adjacent to the piston top surface. A recess (5) is provided between the top ring and the piston crown at the outer surface of the piston in a region of the piston crown. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a barrel assembly (2) a method for removing deposition of an outer surface of a piston of a lifting cylinder combustion engine.
