Apparatus and method for improving the process of coupling a vehicle with a trailer coupling

The method involves monitoring a rear environment of a vehicle (10) and defining a object (100) i.e. trailer's drawbar tip, in the environment. A position (101) of the object is determined relative to the vehicle. A target turning angle (32) of the vehicle is calculated for reaching the object during a reverse movement. A steering wheel angle (30) predetermined by a driver is determined. A transmission ratio of a superimposed steering system (12) between the steering wheel angle and a turning angle (31) of the vehicle is adjusted for adjustment of the turning angle to the target turning angle. An independent claim is also included for a back driving assist system for a vehicle.
