The engine cylinder comprises a filling channel (2) and a charge movement channel (3), which is lying side by side corresponding to an inlet valve (5) in a cylinder head of the engine cylinder. The through flow of the two channels is regulated from a common throttle valve (6) extending into the two channels or the inlet openings, with which the combustion chamber-distant end portions of the two channels or their inlet openings are closed. The throttle valve is a plate-shaped component, which extends in its middle area (34) around a pivot axis between the two channels.
