Child seat with side impact protection

The child seat (1) comprises a cylindrical energy absorbing and/or transmitting element (2) which is automatically transferred from an idle position (3) into a functional position (4) over a screw thread during attachment of the child seat at the seat of motor vehicle. The element absorbs the laterally acting energy in the functional position. The element is pivotally supported and is arranged at a carrying handle. The element is arranged in the lower side region of the seat and has a shape of a folded band.
