The seat (1) has an energy absorbing and/or transmitting element (2) automatically transferred from an idle position into a functional position (4) over a screw thread during attachment of the seat at a destination point i.e. seat of a motor vehicle. The element absorbs laterally acting energy in the functional position. The element is pivotally supported, and is arranged at a carrying handle. The element is arranged in a lower side region of the seat, and is curvedly or cylindrically formed. The element has a shape of a folded band.
