The load carrier has support structures (13a) for carrying a load. A pivot bearing arrangement (18a) is provided for pivoting support structures between inoperative position (N) and operating position (A). The support structures project backwardly in front of rear region (11) of a motor vehicle (12a) in the working position for placing the load. The support structures are pivotable for changing the inoperative position into resting position area (15a) below a chassis (16) of vehicle. The support structures are detachably fastened on the pivot bearing assembly.
