The invention relates to a load carrier (10) for a motor vehicle (100), in particular a passenger car, having a base carrier (17) provided for carrying a load (90), which protrudes rearward in front of a rear region of the motor vehicle (100) when the load carrier (10) is in use, wherein the base carrier (17) has at least one load-bearing part (30) which has a support section (32) extending along a longitudinal axis direction and having an elongated shape for carrying a load (90), in particular a bicycle (90). In the load carrier (10), it is provided that on the support section (32) a support element (70) for supporting the load (90), in particular a wheel of a bicycle (90), is guided displaceably along the longitudinal axis direction by means of a guide device (71), so that the support element (70) is adjustable in a longitudinal position suitable for supporting the load along the longitudinal axis direction.
