The method comprises determining a position data, which comprises a current position of a motor vehicle, evaluating the position data, and selecting or adjusting a control algorithm to the current control of an internal combustion engine in dependence of the evaluated position data. The determining step comprises predicting the position data of a further position of the motor vehicle. A first control algorithm is selected or adapted based on the current position data. A second control algorithm is selected or adapted on the basis of the predicted position data. A second control algorithm is selected or adapted on the basis of the predicted position data, where a transition algorithm is generated or selected to the current control that represents a continuous transition from the first control algorithm to the second control algorithm. The current position data is generated with a satellite-based positioning system. One of the control algorithms is generated or adapted in dependence of local requirements that are temporally variable. The local requirements and/or motor control data are transmitted via a remote data connection to the motor vehicle. The motor control data is transmitted to a removed maintenance device via a data connection. The local requirements are manipulated by a user. An independent claim is included for a motor vehicle.
