A method for informing passengers of a public transport vehicle of a door lock status comprises optically coupling a light source (22,24) to an at least partially see-through modesty panel (18,20) for propagating light therein. The modesty panel (18,20) is positioned within the transport vehicle adjacent to a door (10) for separating the passengers from the door (10). A signal indicating that the door (10) is unlocked causes illumination of at least a portion of the modesty panel (18,20) using the light source (22,24), thereby informing the passengers that the door (10) is unlocked.
