The method involves providing a form-fit brake (48) e.g. claw coupling. A transmission ratio between an electrical machine (22) and an internal combustion engine (10) is adjusted to a fixed value by closing the brake. The machine and the engine are coupled with each other by a planetary gear (16). Rotational speeds of a shaft (28) of the electrical machine and a crank shaft (12) of the engine are adjusted by opening the brake. The rotational speeds are provided relative to each other with a preset minimum accuracy in the ratio corresponding to the fixed value. The brake is subsequently closed. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement.
