Braking system with monitoring device

The brake system has a mechanical braking device with a brake lining and a brake lining carrier, and a unit for detecting the temperature on the brake lining or on the brake lining carrier. A monitoring module (6) is provided for monitoring the operability of the braking device. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring a brake system.
