An alkaline secondary cell (2) has an electrode assembly (22) including a positive electrode (24), a negative electrode (26) and a separator (28), and alkaline electrolyte. The negative electrode (26) has hydrogen-storage alloy and an oxidation inhibitor that inhibits the hydrogen-storage alloy from being oxidized. The oxidation inhibitor contains a chemical compound, and the chemical compound includes a chemical-bond-formation end that is chemically bonded to the surface of the hydrogen-storage alloy and a water-repellent end having water repellency.
