A pressure balancing orifice plate (26) for a fuel injector device (10) may include a cylindrical body having a top surface (100), a bottom surface, an annular outer surface (98), and a body longitudinal axis, a balance pressure relief orifice (66) extending from the top surface (100) to the bottom surface, and a raised valve seat (102) extending upwardly from the top surface (100) and surrounding the balance pressure relief orifice (66). The valve seat may have a central seat surface (110) encircling the balance pressure relief orifice (66) and a plurality of leaf portions (112) extending radially outwardly from the central seat surface (110) and defining drainage channels (116) there between. A width W c of the drainage channels (116) may increase as the radial distance from the balance pressure relief orifice (66) increases.
