Device and method for lowering a vehicle seat

The device has a releasing device sectionally lowering a seat part of a vehicle seat in a case of crash from a defined basic position. A fastening element is formed by a separation element (58), which separates a connection between the seat part or a seat part-partial region and a support-and/or adjusting structure (46). Propelling charge and/or blasting charge (88) ignited by the releasing device is assigned to the separation element, and shifts and/or destroys the separation element during ignition of the charge for sectionally lowering the seat part or the part-partial region. An independent claim is also included for a method for lowering a vehicle seat in a vehicle.
