Method and system for controlling a drive of a vehicle

The method involves setting gear ratios in controller for operation of internal combustion engine and detecting a current driving speed and driving power of vehicle. A transmission stage is selected as a function of instantaneous vehicle speed and requested power. The engine is operated at instantaneous driving stage by increasing or decreasing the torque generated specific speed of vehicle. The operation of engine is changed at adjacent transmission stage, when the upper or lower torque limit value exceeds instantaneous transmission stage. An independent claim is included for drive system for controlling drive of vehicle.
