The passive flow control valve (1) has valve housing (2) with an inlet (3) and an outlet (4) for a flowable medium. A valve chamber (5) is arranged between the inlet and outlet. An input-side closing element is pre-stressed by a spring (8) against an input-side valve seat (31). A piston (7) is provided on a valve body (6), where outer side of the piston is guided through the wall of the valve chamber in sliding manner. A passage hole (73) is provided in an end face of the piston through which the flowable medium flows. An independent claim is also included for a large diesel engine with flow control valve that is arranged between a high-pressure reservoir for a fuel and a fuel injector nozzle.
