Method and device for determining a distance between a vehicle and a neighbouring vehicle

The method involves capturing an image (1) of the adjacent vehicle (2) with a camera mounted in the vehicle. An object (3) on the adjacent vehicle is identified from the image, for determining an expansion of the image of the identified object. The distance between the two vehicles is determined based on the determination result of expansion of the image of the identified object. The expansion of the identified object is standardized.
