The internal combustion engine (100) has two cylinders (102,104), a crankshaft (110) with crankpins, a camshaft (114) and a mass-balancing unit (101) that is driven by the crankshaft, where the crankpins are arranged between the lifting carriages. The crankshaft-sided drive of the mass-balancing unit is arranged between the lifting carriages.
