The gear drive (1) has a driving shaft, where a starting unit (5) is provided for supporting axial loads of the driven shaft. The starting unit has a secondary axial bearing (4). The gear drive is arranged between a drive engine (6) and a driving assembly (7). An independent claim is also included for a method for upgrading starting behavior of a gear drive.
