The carrier has a carriage-guide base (11) for mounting on a carrier receiver (87) of a vehicle and a carriage (12) that is adjustable between a rest position (R) and a use position. The carriage is guided at the carrier-guide base. The carrier has an electrically, fluidically or manually operated carriage drives (133a,133b) for moving the carriage into the use position or the rest position. The carriage drive is switchable with a carriage drive switch. A controller (52) is provided with a sensor.
