The method involves reducing supporting force (102) applied by a controllable brake booster when actuating force required for holding a vehicle i.e. motor vehicle, in standstill is smaller than total actuating force (103). A change of correlation between input force (101) and regulating distance of the actuator is counteracted by adjusting the correlation independent of pressure in a hydraulic brake system. The controllable brake booster is designed as a controllable electromechanical or a controllable pneumatic brake booster. An independent claim is also included for an evaluation and control device for holding a vehicle in standstill.
