Device for covering the luggage compartment of a motor vehicle.

The device (1) has a covering plate (4) occupying a covering position in which the plate is in a horizontal direction, and a retracted position in which the plate is folded by lowering its rear edge (6). A reversible positioning unit (7) positions the plate in the covering position. A stop unit (8) prevents rotation of the plate from its covering position to its retracted position. The stop unit is positioned on a tailgate (3), and is activated by closing the tailgate while the plate is positioned by the positioning unit in the covering position.
