Method for controlling the shut-down of a combustion engine

The method involves controlling pressure within a cylinder independently of operation of an intake and exhaust valve by an auxiliary control valve to stop a crankshaft (13) in a position favorable for restarting. An energy of an internal combustion engine is determined when fuel and ignition is switched off, where the step of controlling pressure includes controlling pressure based on the energy of the engine. An independent claim is also included for a system for controlling stopping position of a crankshaft during shutdown of an internal combustion engine.
