Display device and method for a vehicle

The device has a display for representing application data to a vehicle user and a pivot for moving the display between two positions. The device checks whether or not the representation of data of an application selected by the vehicle user is permitted in the actual state of the vehicle. A release device releases the pivot for controlling the display according to the application or any application selected by the vehicle user, in case the check emits an affirmative signal. The pivot is provided as a housing of the display. The pivot provides manual or automatic moving of the display. An independent claim is included for a display method for a vehicle.
