The method involves determining desired torque corresponding to request of a driver, by a torque determining unit (68). Desired indicated mean pressure is determined from the torque to establish parameters to control fluid admission in a combustion chamber. A set point of the pressure is determined from the desired pressure and a magnitude associated to the fluid allowed in the chamber is determined, to define fuel injection parameters. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a direct fuel injection internal combustion engine (B) an application of a method of controlling combustion of an internal combustion engine.
