The method for the adjusting of the torque of a clutch operated by means of an actuator in dependence upon a clutch pedal operated by the driver entails determining a driver optioned torque and a predetermined limiting clutch torque and setting the clutch torque to the smaller of the recorded values. The desired clutch torque is determined in dependence upon the pedal travel, the engine torque and/or the pedal operation. The change of the clutch torque is pedal travel variable in dependence upon engine torque. An independent claim is included for a use for the proposed method which is for the friction adherence state free clutch engagement and transition into slip control.
