Lane-changing assistant for motor vehicle

The lane change assistant has a device (12) for determining a hazard level using location data of the vehicle (10) involved in the lane change. A detection device (20,22) for ambient conditions is provided and the determined hazard level is also dependent on the detected ambient conditions.
