A control apparatus (3) for controlling an opening/closing body (1) that opens and closes an opening in a vehicle body by moving with respect to the vehicle body, the control apparatus and a drive motor (4) that switches between a low-speed mode for moving the opening/closing body (1) with a relatively high torque at a low velocity and a high-speed mode for moving the opening/closing body (1) with a relatively low torque at a high velocity and a position sensor (6) that detects the position of the opening/closing body (1) with respect to the vehicle body and a velocity sensor (6) that detects the velocity of the opening/closing body (1) and a control unit (5) that compares the velocity of the opening/closing body (1) with a threshold velocity when the opening/closing body (1) reaches a first predetermined position and sets the drive motor to one of the low-speed mode and the high-speed mode depending on the result of comparison.
